Attendance

Timeliness and preparedness are vital to ensuring student academic success.  Our attendance procedures are intended to involve parents, teach students responsibility, and provide for optimum instruction and academic accountability.

Attendance Policy

Only a parent or legal guardian may excuse absences.

  • Students are considered absent if they are 10 or more minutes late to a class period.
  • Students leaving a class period early will be considered absent if they leave before the last 10 minutes of a class.
  • Students arriving within the first 10 minutes of a class are marked Tardy.

All absences, regardless of the reason, must be reported within 24 hours.  When absences are reported after 24 hours, a note will be added to the student attendance record, but it can't be excused per district policy.

A timely note from the doctor’s office, dentist office or court system will also excuse a student in lieu of a parent contacting us.

Absences can be defined as excused or unexcused.  Per the state of AZ, we can only excuse the reasons listed below, any other reasons provided will not be excused:

  • Bereavement / Funeral (BRE)
  • Chronic Ill (CHR) – the use of this must be approved by the District Health Office
  • Doctor Note (DRN) – this will be coded when a verified doctor note is received
  • Doctor’s Appointment (DR) – this includes orthodontist appointments
  • Family Emergency (FER)
  • Illness (Ill)
  • Religious Holiday (Rel)
  • Vacation / Out of Town (Vac)

The following are some examples of absence reasons that are unexcused:

  • Appointment – this is too generic
  • Late

  • Traffic

  • Other

Please check ParentVue on a daily basis to ensure all absences are updated. If a student or parent feels the student was marked absent incorrectly, please have the student talk to their teacher about the absence.  The teacher will report any necessary changes or corrections to the Attendance Office.
